Special Needs Summer Camp Program Overview
Our summer camp is designed to provide a structured, supportive, and engaging environment where children can build independence, social skills, and confidence while having fun. Each day incorporates a balance of sensory experiences, hands-on activities, movement, and social interaction.
Sensory Play
We incorporate daily sensory-based activities to support regulation, engagement, and exploration. Activities are individualized based on each child’s needs and preferences.
Examples of sensory materials:
- Sensory bins (rice, beans, kinetic sand, water beads)
- Play-Doh and modeling clay
- Fidget toys (pop-its, stress balls, spinners)
- Weighted items (lap pads, blankets)
- Textured mats and tactile boards
- Water play stations
- Bubble play and foam activities
Activity-Based Learning
Children will participate in structured, hands-on activities that promote independence, following directions, and functional life skills.
Examples include:
- Preparing simple snacks (e.g., sandwiches, fruit bowls)
- Cooking-based tasks (mixing, pouring, assembling)
- Arts & crafts (painting, coloring, cutting, gluing)
- Themed projects (seasonal crafts, group builds)
- Cleaning and organizing tasks to build responsibility
Music & Movement
Music is integrated into the program to support engagement, communication, and enjoyment.
Program features:
- Live musician sessions throughout the summer
- Singing, rhythm, and movement activities
- Instrument exploration (drums, shakers, etc.)
- Group participation and imitation-based activities
Social Skills Development
Social skills are embedded throughout the day using structured and natural opportunities.
Targeted skills include:
- Greeting peers and staff
- Turn-taking and waiting
- Engaging in shared activities
- Initiating and responding to conversation s
- Requesting help or items appropriately
- Following group instructions
- Cooperative play and teamwork
- Understanding personal space and body awarenes
Physical Education & Games
Our camp includes structured physical activity to promote gross motor development, coordination, and teamwork.
Examples of activities:
- Obstacle courses
- Relay races
- Soccer (dribbling, passing, shooting)
- Basketball (shooting, passing, modified games)
- Parachute games
- Tag games (freeze tag, color tag)
- Movement-based group games and stations
- Balance and coordination exercises
This program is designed to meet children where they are, providing individualized support while encouraging growth across communication, social, behavioral, and daily living skills alll in a fun and engaging summer camp setting.
